Grand Final - Port Melbourne V Sandringham
Shaping up as an absolute classic. Two traditional clubs which historically have drawn big crowds to finals. Can Port Melbourne claim underdog status, with Sandringham beating them in the last three meetings? Will the wide flanks of Optus Oval suit Port or Sandringham? Personally I think Port can win it in either dry or wet weather, but would rate their chances much higher in poor weather conditions.

I'm hoping Port get up for Obba. And because I couldn't stand Sandy fans rubbing it in next year.

There will be some awesome match ups, especially in the midfield. I think the Borough will be favourites, and hopefully the crowd will break the figures set over the last few years. I'd love to see it push 15,000.
Trend for Saturday, Sunday and Monday Mostly fine. Cool to mild.
Sounds promising. Who is going to get the job on Sautner? LeCras or Baird?

Has anyone heard anything on TV or Radio about Sundays game (excluding the ABC coverage)? With traditionally strong clubs and characters like Steve Lawrence, I would have thought this game was very marketable. I tuned in to SEN but the only sport outside the AFL was Soccer and a lot of Rugby. Disapointing. Can someone who takes an interest in Rugby tell me What kind of a crowd will the Storm draw? With the media attention they get, they should be drawing massive crowds. Maybe its time that the VFL pays for a page in the Herald-Sun once a week, like Baseball and Basketball did a few years back. The WAFL do it in Perth, maybe the VFL should consider it.

The Sandringham v Tasmania Prelim Final was broadcast live on ABC Radio which was terrific for the VFL, and the after game interviews with players and coaches were good value as well. Plus Brad Gotch in special comments was interesting. I think ABC and 3AW will call the Grand Final, which is good exposure. You are right about the newspapers - I'd like to see more VFL news, but we are an AFL dominated state. Inside Footy does a good job with the VFL.

I agree with the idea of having a whole page devoted to the VFL in the Herald Sun... The VFL is the 2nd best competition in Australia and deserves more media coverage.. Hopefully the game this week will be worthy of the two top teams ...the ABC does an excellent job each week....3AW usually broadcast the GF,,,as well as 774.... Fortunately the Zebras don't have any injury concerns so selection could be interesting this week... I didn't notice any Port injuries either so both sides should be at full strength Roll on Sunday...been 4 years since the zebs were in a GF...mind you our track record has been pretty good in the last 10 years.....

Dont think there will be any outs from injuries sustained in Saturdays game. The weather has now been forecast as being sunny and 20 degrees... maybe a crowd of 15,000 isnt out of the question. Port's side looks pretty settled now. The 12/10 rule looks to have worked well. Will we see it during the home and away season in 2005? Hale will have a good challenge on his hands taking on Sandy's talls in the ruck.

The 12/10 rule has been a great success..... Williamstown last year made a mockery of the competition fielding the team it did....one Collingwood player played his only game for Williamstown in the GF!! Whether the 12/10 rule can be applied during the home and away season ...I'm not sure...

Phil Cleary has posted his Grand Final Preview over at his website: http://www.philcleary.com.au/vfl_2004_grandfinal_preview.htm Well worth the read. Could Tim Ryan, who has played just 2 or 3 games this season be called up, to allow Hale to spend more time around the ground? I am really looking forward to seeing the named sides on Thursday night. Port have to name both a seniors and reserves side. Very interesting to see who lines up in the twos.
