Will the Seagulls win three in a row?

Go back to about Round 19 and Willy coach Anthony Eames had to pull the boots on and play. Now they are in a Grand Final. Who knows how strong the Port side will be. When they beat Nth Ballarat last week, Anthony Aloi was playing, so was Josh Rudd. Both of them stepped up to seniors yesterday. If they stay in seniors - well are their replacements going to be as classy? Port have that terrific scoring power in Adrian Newman and Nick Thomas. They are really good players at this level. Will the Seagulls defence be good enough? Tim Ryan vs Brent Hall in the ruck will be interesting. Which side will control clearances? Will Salesi Uhi be right to play or has he done his AC joint? At 193cm/96kg he adds a lot of strength to the Seagulls forward line. Williamstown have some young kids but they have some older blokes (5 or 6 who are 23 yrs or over) and some of the 19-20-21 yr olds are fairly solid, and that was noticeable against Nth Ballarat today. If I had to give a tip I'd go for Port, but I might change my mind later in the week.

The strongest reserves side Port have fielded all season, with Hamish McIntosh not playing a game in Ports reserves this season. Both McIntosh and S Harvey have not played since the home and away season.. Interesting to see if thats noticeable in tomorrows game.

Great Port ressies side i agree but I wouldn't be going to crook if i was an opposition supporter. Firstly I'd reckon 2 of Trotter , Aloi and Alexander are likely to play senior footy and I'd be hugely surprised if either McIntosh or Harvey play at all. Both Shore and perry have played around ten ressies games each and are hardly what you'd call senior AFL players. Besides all this , I reckon it's am absolute credit to Port to have both teams in the GF and if they find themselves getting the benefit of having their entire list available then , hey , best of luck ! I can see that thr rules still allow for the odd distortion but I cant see any real signs here of Port doing anything untoward.

Other people will know more about Willy, but the things just on the finals so far that I'll be interested to look at tomorrow: Maybe that group of 3 or 4 running half backs. Maybe the ruck. Fanning & Hall versus Ryan & Shore - Do we lean to Willy there as being slightly stronger? I see they named Uhi, if you're from Port then you go at his shoulder early tomorrow in case its still a bit sore from last week. I'll be interested to see what Port have to play on him size and strength wise.

PORT MELBOURNE 8.3 13.5 17.11 19.13 (127) WILLIAMSTOWN 1.4 2.5 3.6 8.15 (63) Goals: Port: Harvey 5 Newman 5 Shore 2 Hooker McMahon Pinwill Sharpe Thomas Finnin Alexander. Williamstown: Ramsey 2 Lawry 2 Knight 2 Yhi Hall. Best: Port: Perry Buckley Bloom Johnston Hooker Shore. Williamstown: Laverde Neeson Pearce Rippon Chiu. Reports: Nil. At Optus Oval. Port did taste some premiership success in 2004, with the Reserves side posting a convincing win against Williamstown. A 7 goal lead at quarter time set up the win, with ruck dominance and first use out of the centre giving Port a lot of goal scoring opportunities. Port had multiple forwards in Newman, Shore, Thomas, Harvey. John Milhuisen who has performed well this season in the Reserves as Captain did not play a senior game this year, but was given some reward, as a Premiership captain.

It was a terrible game of footy ons, really it was all over after 20 minutes. Port were too good. Funny game given Port hit hard early, then in the second quarter no side scored for the first 13 minutes, then in the last quarter Willy kicked 5.9 but the game was well and truly over by then. The Borough were able to move the ball forward really easily, had big targets in their forward line, they had a good group of on ballers, their ruck of Ryan and Thomas performed well and Willy made a lot of mistakes, fumbling around with the ball etc. I thought Viv Buckley was terrific for the Borough, to be honest I would have given the medal to him. No doubt Joe Laverde was the Seagulls best player, he was one bloke who could hold his head high in a pretty disappointing performance. Shane Harvey kicked 5 goals, but thats a blight on the competition that he played in that game. The win surely would have meant more to one of those Borough kids who did the hard work during the season to get them into top spot.
