MCC rejected the VFL Grand Final
Surprised nobody has started a thread about the article from today's Age newspaper. MCG rejects 'romantic' VFL decider http://www.theage.com.au/realfooty/articles/2006/09/19/1158431712615.html Thoughts?

Only just posted it up on the front page just now. Good to see the VFL looking at options for the Grand Final, even if it is very late notice. I still think Princess Park is still a better option than the MCG, even Telstra Dome with the roof open would probably draw more people than the MCG in my opinion. (thoughts?) Seeing the game played at the MCG reminds me of the time the VFL played a Grand Final at Waverly Park, one of the sides playing in it was North Ballarat, and the crowd at best would have been about 8000 and looked dreadful in such a large ground. The MCGs excuse that the TRUenergy logos on the ground would cause a problem seems a little weak to me.

I reckon the atmospshere improves the fuller the ground is so I'm glad that the MCC have knocked back the Grand Final. Can't make the game this week as the side I played for, Sunbury Rovers /Kangaroos, have made a Grand Final for the 1st time in the clubs 20 year history which is also on Sunday. I read they expect 20,000+. What is the capacity at Port these days? I would prefer to see the GF's there. Burner

Burner
20,000 would have been an absolute best case / wildest dreams figure in my opinion. Realistically they should have aimed for 15,000 if the weather was good. I hear its going to be 15 degrees and showers.. So we might be lucky to get 8,000. Port Melbourne at most can hold about 8,000 - 9,000. Good luck to Sunbury for their Grand Final too.
