Oakleigh games
Seeing as it seems some folks here have an extensive archive of past VFA games, it would be remiss of me to fail to ask if anyone would have some old Oakleigh games I can get a hold of. The ones I did have were destroyed in an unfortunate flood :(

What Oakleigh games did you have ? Do you have any left or any other vfa games on tape ? I know there was an avid Oakleigh fan by the name of Denis Swingler who taped a lot of oakleigh games. He would have had a large collection of tapes. He has not been seen or heard for over 10 years. He went somewhere in QLD. I have some games. I have the 1982 2nd semi v Northcote. About the last 15 minutes of the 1972 GF as well as the 73 and 74. Also have about 45 minutes of the relegation battle of 1976 between Oakleigh v Sandy. Plus a couple of oakleigh v Port games from late 80s. I have not put any games on youtube as yet or this site. The 1979 VFA GF between Coburg and Geelong West is on youtube. Phil Cleary's has put this game on.

I had a bunch of complete games from 87-94. Alas, all were lost when the box the tapes were stored in ended up under 3 foot of water :(

Did you obtain the games from Denis Swingler ? He would be the one that would have had a swag of Oakleigh games. You would have had the game against Mordialloc when Rino Pretto booted 20 goals ?? Some of those games that you would have had would have been against some of the defunct clubs like Northcote, Waverley, Camberwell, Mordialloc and Sunshine in season 1987.

It's been quite a few years since I lost them, but I do remember having at least two games where Rino kicked monster bags. Basically, I used to tape us any time we were on ABC because I was usually out at other games.

although i was a mustang supporter, i always had a soft spot for oakleigh, i loved the colours and used to travel past the ground alot when i was a kid. I must say i was priviledged to have witnessed the impossible back in round 1, 1993 when oakleigh hosted sandy at Warrawee Park. Oakleigh had won only 1 game over the 1991-2 seasons and 100+ point thrashings were the norm, Sandy on the other hand had just won the flag so i was more or less expecting a thrashing of epic proportions. Well, oakleigh controlled the game and pumped sandy by 6 goals or so.. i can still remember the crowd of well over 3000 going absolutely mental.

Whoa Pacman, thought i'd posted something and couldn't remember posting it! Nice logo, go the stangs! I've got some footage of Matthew Quirk kicking a goal from the wing against williamstown in about '93? Dead on the wing, and it zig-zag bounced in the goal-square! Dodgy quality, outside aerial at the time. Would have to dig it up . . . not too sure where, but sure i've still got it. Don't have the whole match or anything. Will keep you posted.

Somewhere at home i also have the Oakleigh Williamstown game from 1993. It was Troy Wests debut for the Gulls, Tony Pastore was best on ground, and it poured with rain making it hard to distinguish the 2 sides in the mud. Like Pacman77, i tended to have a soft spot for Oakleigh once Willy didnt have to play them. Sat behind the goals at the Junction Oval when Pretto kicked 7 in the last qtr of the Div 2 granny in 1985, when they lost to Brunswick. Now that would be good to watch again (last qtr would have been televised), and I reckon a Sandy supporter could have that as they should have kept the Div 1 GF win over Willy.

 I have that tape Sandy win over Willy 1985 but only have the presentation that was made to Brunswick after the match. Bad luck I never put tape on a little earlier in time. Funny how so many other supporters used to follow the Oaks as I quite often when the Zebras played on Sunday my late Father and myself would go to Oakleigh and watch the PURPLE PEOPLE EATERS play and saw many a good game. That real bad one was after we won the VFA flag in 1992 and Oakleigh was bottom and Sandy was expected to win easily well Oakleigh never let us in and soundly thrashed Sandy, not expected. Oakleigh had many diehard supporters and a good location but money dried up and sponsors moved on leading to their downfall unfortunately. go zebs zebra

I remember going out to Oakleigh once for an Oakeligh v Williamstown game. I think it was 94 - Billy Swan was coaching Willy Reserves then. I know Phil Shaw is a big Oakleigh fan (despite living near the Caulfield Bears ground). It's strange to see "The Oaks" badge here as Phil always calls them the Devils. Pete.
