Going by the piss poor crowds the thugby gets in Sydney I would think it would be like mothers day.
Why annoy a large section of the community when you you have little to gain?

Billy...I think you're annoying a pretty small section of the community...

Let those who want to have a religous day have it....

Let those of us who would go to the football do it...

and I'm tipping there would be people who would go to church AND go to the football

Sandy. The most successful club in the past 30 years

I have always been pro-footy on good friday, saying people have a choice let them make it, but then a mate pointed out that all of a sudden players get that decesion taken away and are expected to play against what could be strong religious beliefs.

I'm still up in the air... but geez the VFL has to try something i think!

Im not religious at all in fact the opposite but I just think that Good Friday wouldnt be a great success.

As an aside I see the Melbourne AFL clubs bitching about not making money playing on Sundays - what comes around goes around.

footyman

Of course there should be VFL footy on Good Friday!

Country leagues reckon it provides the best gates of the year to clubs.

And the VFL needs timeslots where there is no AFL competition. Good Friday is about the only day of the season where the VFL could have footy all to itself!

burraburger

I would love this happen. It wont be long before the AFL finally decide to use good friday...
I think it would be great to have a big game like the Anzac Day clash. Even people that dont really follow football know that on Anzac day Collingwood play essendon.

How good would it be to see 2 rivals like Port Melbourne and Williamstown go at it under lights to kick off the long weekend? There would be no other games of Footy to take away the crowd so there is a definate untapped market.

Bring it on....

We would cook grilled fish at Port and take the burraburgers off the menu to keep people happy!!!!!

[/quote]Agree. But under lights at which ground?

MinkaBeaver

I'd got to Good Friday games if there were something at stake - perhaps one of the losing side could be crucified on the arena after the match?
