FROM boiled lollies to advancing into the VFL top four. That’s the past week for Port Melbourne as it had one of its best second halves this season to knock off Box Hill by 49 points at TEAC Oval on Saturday.

Coming off a 42-point loss to the undefeated Williamstown and meeting a Hawks side bubbling after a 100-point win over Frankston, the Boroughs had a perfect start by winning the toss and kicking with the wind to the old stand end.

Part of last week’s flat performance was Port’s poor shooting. Recruit Wayne Schultz kicked three behinds, but the diminutive blonde rebounded on Saturday and booted three goals in the first quarter. Along with the inclusion of David Pitt, Port at last had an inside-50 presence.

But the Hawks’ Adem Yze, whose body shape hasn’t changed since his best form with Melbourne, put on an exhibition in the second quarter, kicking three goals and setting up another.
