I took the opportunity with the Dolphins having the bye to go over to Adelaide for the weekend. I went to the South vs North game on Saturday at Hickinbotham Oval, Noarlunga. I met up with the South timekeeper who I was timekeeping with at the state game last year at Adelaide Oval.
It was my first visit to Noarlunga and the ground is great it has a small grandstand and also plenty of parking for people to bring their cars in similar to North Ballarat and Shepley Oval. The surface was fantastic.
The reserves game was the battle of the bottom 2 sides South (2-5 8th) and North (0-6 9th). An interesting footnote to this game was Port Power player Josh Carr was given permission to play for the North reserves because his SANFL team Glenelg had the bye and Port Power wanted him to have a match. He had 47 possessions and kicked a goal.
NORTH 3-0 3-8 7-11 8-15(63)
SOUTH 1-1 4-4 6-6 7-8(50)
In the seniors game North went in as favorites despite coming off a 3 week break due to a bye then the state game break as South had not won since Round 1. Former Werribee player Jak Kennedy-Hunt lined up with South while former VFL Players Clint Alleway, Cain Ackland, Djaran Whyman, Ben Schwarze and Trent Sporn lined up for North.
North got the jump on South leading by 3 goals at quarter time but from there the game was pretty even with North only 13 points up at the last change. South who had a very young side in ran out of puff in the last quarter and North went away with a 6 goal win.
NORTH 4-6 7-8 10-12 15-17(107)
SOUTH 2-1 6-4 8-9 10-11(71)
Goals: North: White 5, Alleway, Whyman, Ryswyk 2, Ackland, Stribling, Schwarze, Younie. South: Lyons, Boyd, Warren 2, Splitt, Redigolo, Cockshell, Veide.
The Crowd was 1846 at the game.
Other interesting points are they don't stop the clock at ball ups unless the umpire signals time off. No kicking backwards rule and also no deliberate rushed behind rule.
