VICTORIAN school boy football and cricket star Alex Keath has turned down an offer to join the Gold Coast Football Club after accepting a deal with the Victorian Bushrangers Cricket Team.
The sporting prodigy announced yesterday he would not be joining the AFL's 17th team as he plans on pursuing his dream of playing cricket for Australia.
Keath was one of 12 17-year-old footballers listed by the Gold Coast as part of the club's recruitment plan.
GCFC Coach Guy McKenna said the club was happy to take the risk on Keath knowing he would eventually have to make the decision between football and cricket.
``We're wrapped for him he's chosen a sport that he wants to play and I'd hate to think that we'd forced him into a decision to play football when his heart was in cricket,'' he said.
``When you lose out to the Australian Cricket side you can't be too dirty with the decision.''
Cricket Victoria will announce Keath's deal later today.
