Stung by a loss to Casey, the Selkirk Roosters produced their most attacking brand of football for the season to thump Box Hill by 54 points.
Before cutting loose though to reach 18.11 (119) to 10.5 (65), North Ballarat was at its defensive best.
Roosters coach Gerard FitzGerald highlighted the consistency and effectiveness of their tackling as pivotal to the outcome.
He said having laid just nine tackles in the last quarter against Casey, everyone knew this was not good enough and that this work rate had to lift.
North Ballarat responded in the best possible way with more than 80 tackles, with the effort off the football particularly pleasing for FitzGerald.
For the Roosters' brains trust, the way in which they dispensed of Box Hill also reflected the positive nature in which the players responded to the previous week's defeat.
