PORT Melbourne forward Dean Galea booted seven goals on young Hawk Beau Dowler - including the last-gasp matchwinner - to sink Box Hill by three points at Box Hill City Oval yesterday.
In a virtual repeat of last year's semi-final, in which the Borough also beat the Hawks by three points, Box Hill led by 25 points at the last change before Port's experienced on-ball brigade - led by Cory McGrath (25 disposals), Nathan Batsanis (26), Tony Pinwill (21) and Dylan McLaren (35 hitouts) - got on top.
While the Hawks, one of this year's premiership fancies, lost this important match and are now at the crossroads at 3-3, both teams proved they will again be in the thick of the action in September.
As Port coach Gary Ayres pointed out, the Borough had no right to win the match from three-quarter time.
