THE VFL could be without the Gold Coast next season with the team looking likely to join the Brisbane Lions in the Queensland league for a proposed northern conference.
AFL game development manager David Matthews said several VFL clubs had expressed strong concerns about having an eastern seaboard competition involving the Gold Coast and Greater Western Sydney.
"I think you'll find that Gold Coast will seek entry locally in a Queensland competition in an expanded northern conference," Matthews said. "I think the VFL clubs themselves have expressed a view that the eastern seaboard model is not the preferred option. I think they prefer to play amongst themselves."
