THE Gold Coast Suns were brave but fell agonisingly short of pulling off what would have been a great comeback win over Geelong at Skilled Stadium today.

In a game played in good conditions, the Suns were down by 29 points at quarter-time but fought back to hit the front in the third term before being edged out in the last, 13.10 (88) to 11.5 (71).

The first 15 minutes of the last term was a tight affair with neither side able to kick the all important first goal.

It was Geelong who finally broke the deadlock through ruckman Mark Blake but livewire Brandon Matera responded two minutes later to bring the margin back to four points at the 19-minute mark.
