Surely there has to be some deadline for these decisions, but knowing the arrogance of most AFL clubs the will most likely make those decisions when it suits them.
Doesn't look like Carlton will be one considering their recent marketing approach for new membership with the Bullants.

My understanding is that clubs were given a deadline of October last year to inform the VFL (and AFL) of their short and mid term plans. I may be wrong but I think this meant that if they planned to go alone in for e.g. 1, 2 or 3 years etc. Then the VFL had to be notified.

I have little doubt that alignments will be broken. By how many? Who knows.
Digs. I would suggest that you're right, a lot of AFL couldn't care less and they will probably make the call when it suits, despite this attempt from the VFL.
