The Dolphins, who are desperate for some AFL talent to help lift them from the bottom of the VFL ladder, canvassed the possibility of joining forces with the Saints back in 2008 before St Kilda ditched Casey to join forces with Sandy for five years.

They are yet to speak to the Saints, who train at an elite facility at Belvedere Oval in Frankston. But it is certain that after years of delivering a stand-alone VFL club, the Dolphins are now hoping to successfully begin talks with an interested partner.
