BARBS have been flying in State Parliament before tomorrow's VFL grand final between Port Melbourne and Williamstown.

Heated words were exchanged between the Labor MPs from the rival suburbs, with Port's Martin Foley (below) challenging Willy's Wade Noonan (bottom) to fly the winning team's flag from the loser's town hall.

Issuing his challenge, Foley said victory would only be fitting given Williamstown's history of seeking to usurp Port as the most successful, continuously operating footy club in Australia.

"Their pretence they are the most successful club as well as the oldest is an insult," he said.
