ESSENDON is keen to snare Port Melbourne's Shane Valenti, a former Melbourne midfielder and two-time Liston Trophy winner, in Tuesday's AFL rookie draft.

Valenti, who turns 25 next month, trained with the Bombers on Friday and is one of a number of mature-age VFL players who are set to be picked up.

Port Melbourne coach Gary Ayres believes Valenti, a former Casey and Sandringham player, has enough talent to return to the AFL ranks after playing 15 matches in two seasons with the Demons. ''I think he's still got a lot to offer if clubs are interested,'' Ayres said yesterday.
