ESSENDON has moved to ease tensions with its VFL affiliate club after Bendigo chairman Peter Lodewijks accused the Bombers of "paying scant regard" to the alignment.

Lodewijks' comments came after Bendigo coach Hayden Skipworth - who is employed by Essendon - was quoted on Wednesday as putting the development of Essendon's younger players ahead of VFL success.

"It's been made very clear to me from the powers [that] be at Essendon that it's not about win-loss - it's all about playing the young Essendon guys in the positions they need to be played in," Skipworth told the Herald Sun.

"If we lose games because of that, then so be it."

But Skipworth, in his first season as senior coach of Bendigo, responded on Friday in a statement clarifying the comments.
