Caulfield Bears 1973 premiership reunion

Caulfield Bears 1973 premiership reunion is on this Saturday at the Bentleigh Club between 1pm and 5pm.
Caulfield will celebreate their 1973 VFA 2nd Divison premiership win over Brunswick. It will be a 40 year reunion. Caulfield also won the flags in the seconds and thirds in 1973.

Wonder if Prahran will be having a 40 year reunion for their 1973 1st Division flag sometime this year ?

VFA clubs that have folded and not had any reunions over the past 10 years include Oakleigh, Northcote and Sunshine. Pretty sure all other ex VFA clubs that have disappeared have had some sort of reunions over the past few years.

50 years ago Moorabbin won the 1963 flag. 40 years ago the premiers were Prahran and Caulfield. 30 years ago the premiers were Preston and Springvale. 20 years ago it was Werribee. Wonder what milestones will be celebrated in 2013 ?

Caulfield should re-open the 'Cave' for the after party.....
The top 3 in Division 1 in 1973 were Prahran, Oakleigh and Dandenong, and 5th was Geeelong West - all now gone. Meanwhile Box Hill (winless) and Werribee finished in bottom 2 of Division 2 but are still around today.
Still a lot of enthusiasm for the Bears out there in the south east.

Caulfield generally get many of its past players to these functions. Saturday will be no exception. The bear cave was legendary.
Caulfield's best years besides 1973 would have been 1976 and 77. In 1976 they made the 1st semi in 1st Division losing to Dandenong the eventual runners up. In 1977 the bears made the GF of the Centenary Cup losing to Port at Toorak Park. I reckon in 1972 both Geelong West and Caulfield would have both gone well against the majority of the 1st Division sides.
