KYNETON has signalled its intent to climb the Bendigo Football League ladder by signing former Gold Coast player and Bendigo Gold best and fairest Alik Magin.

Magin, a member of this year’s VFL state squad, has joined the Tigers for their 2015 BFL campaign.

Kyneton president Rob Waters told Local Footy Magin’s signing was a significant coup for the club.

“We’re pretty excited about it to be honest,” Waters said.

“He’s a really impressive player and he’s coming to play for us next year which is fantastic.”

Magin, who took out Bendigo’s best and fairest last year, played eight AFL games with Gold Coast.

Waters said he expected Magin would become one of the BFL’s prime movers.

“It happened pretty quickly once their season ended,” he said.

“He was looking for somewhere to play and we like any club were rapt to have him.”

Tigers coach Mark Adamson said Magin turned down offers from VFL clubs to join Kyneton.

“He had to make a decision on whether he wanted to continue playing at VFL level,” Adamson said.

“Without speaking for Alik I know that he was being pursued, I think Werribee, he was close to going there.

“But at the end of the day he’s made the decision to step back from VFL footy due to his own reasons.

“Fortunately I had a relationship with him from when I was at the Gold and had obviously stayed in touch with Aussie (Jones) and Alik at different times.”

He said the 23-year-old would be primed to make a big impact in his first year with the club.

“He’s just a class player,” he said.

“If he was capable of being in that top-25 players within the VFL this season and last, he’s going to be a very good player at Bendigo level.”

Tigers swingman Kane Ranstead remains undecided about a return to Perth, but star on-baller Ben Weightman has committed to the club for another year.

Kyneton finished seventh on the BFL ladder with six wins in its return to senior football this year.
