GEELONG captain James Podsiadly was a dominant force in the Cats' thrilling six-point win over his former team, Werribee Tigers, in the curtain-raiser at Skilled Stadium yesterday.

The 27-year-old, who was the heart and soul of the Tigers in his four-year stint as captain, booted six goals, including four in the second term, in the Cats' 15.8 (98) to 13.14 (92) win.

It was a performance reminiscent of his career-best efforts last season when he won the Liston Trophy.

Podsiadly provided the match-winning highlights in the final term after Jackson Hollmer took a strong grab on the wing and booted it long. Podsiadly grabbed his sixth mark before bombing a penetrating goal from outside 50 to give the Cats the lead.
