PORT Melbourne has been resilient as a stand-alone VFL team that has played finals under Gary Ayres but struggled to take the next step against AFL-aligned clubs.
But the Borough, which is filled with plenty of ex-AFL talent including newbies Wayde Skipper (Hawthorn) and Patrick Rose (Western Bulldogs), adding to Shane Valenti, Cory McGrath and John Baird to name a few, appear to be the ones to challenge triple reigning premier North Ballarat this year.
''We've got a pretty young group this year. As long as they continue to improve and learn and approach their football the way they have all summer, I think we'll be quite impressive,'' Ayres said.
