PORT MELBOURNE'S last-gasp, four-point victory over Box Hill Hawks yesterday had all the elements of a blockbuster final to earn it a second-straight preliminary-final berth against the Northern Bullants on Sunday.

In a classic war of attrition, hard-bodied warriors Adrian Bonaddio, Toby Pinwill and Cory McGrath stood up in the final 10 minutes of the last term to snatch victory - 19.14 (128) to 19.10 (124) - in a match that seemed destined to be claimed by the gallant and much-admired Hawks.

Successive goals to Luke Breust and Jarryd Morton gave the Hawks a 10-point buffer in the 19th minute before McGrath kicked a long goal from outside 50 metres on the run and Bonaddio snapped his fifth to put the Borough in front.

Pinwill, who won a lot of fans with his ruthless and physical play, had three crucial centre clearances to go with his 24 disposals that gave McGrath the chance to kick another long goal.
