IT was nothing like the easy win many VFL observers had predicted. The Northern Bullants gave it everything, and then some.

But Port Melbourne willed its way past a gutsy opponent to take last Saturday's VFL preliminary final by 22 points and advance to the grand final against its great rival Williamstown at Etihad Stadium this Sunday.

Gary Ayres' team, with 20 wins and no losses this season, is out to give this time-honoured club its first premiership since 1982.

A beaming Gary "Barrel" Brice, the coach of the '82 team, entered the changerooms after Saturday's match to congratulate Ayres on steering Port to its second grand final in four years.

But in his press conference the former Hawthorn champion said there was "unfinished business". He wants to take care of it at Etihad.
