Since it’s off season i decided to ask what does the future of the comp look like long term and what it means for the standalone clubs since it has become clear we are disposable to the afl and we will have to go without the afl some day

What does gentrification mean for the long term future of the standalone clubs we don’t have the luxury of being a national brand like the afl clubs so what can vfl clubs do to make sure they have continued support even though the suburbs demographic that they represent changing for example williamstown has become probably the most upper class area of western Melbourne.

That's right... with the Borough's season both at VFL and VFLW all but over, I've begun looking forward to next season.
The addition of St Kilda to the competition adds yet another side.
My understanding is that the Tasmania Devils are playing games against VFL clubs in 2026, but will not be part of the season itself, playing just 10 games throughout the season.
As much as I like the idea of the competition being one division, I'm beginning to wonder if it should be a case of playing every team once, and having no byes during the season.
Port Phillip Council have apparently denied Port Melbourne hosting night matches later this season that feature non community (AFL) clubs.
As a result, the release of the remaining fixture for 2025 has been delayed.
Port Melbourne Football Club are very disappointed by the ruling, as it denies the club an important revenue stream on those game days.
"The City of Port Phillip has blocked Port Melbourne from hosting broadcast matches at North Port Oval – because the teams involved, including Collingwood and Richmond, aren’t local.

Zero Hangar article reporting that the standalone carnival will be held at Mars Stadium in Ballarat on March 1st. VFL Rewind also posted about it on Facebook last night but soon removed their post. According to the article the matchups are:
10:45am - Port Melbourne vs Frankston
1:15pm - Coburg vs Williamstown
3:45pm - Northern Bullants vs Werribee

Rumours are that a draft copy of the fixture for next year has been released.
I'm yet to see a copy, but would love to hear about how it's shaping up.
Port Melbourne's social media has been working overtime with signings for the 2025 season and I'm really looking forward to the season getting underway. It's about this time of the year I build up unrealistic expectations 😃
Picked this book up yesterday - can highly recommend it to anyone interested in the history of our great game - brilliantly researched and extremely well-written, I found it hard to put it down and knocked off 83 of the 263 pages - its the story of an extremely turbulent time (1938-49) when the VFA threatened to usurp the almighty VFL as the premium code in Victoria and if WWII hadn't intervened then it just may have happened. Even after the War recess, the VFA went from strength to strength with its unique rules and thumbing its collective nose at the VFL's permit rules and pinching their star players who were woefully underpaid. Unfortunately, come the end of the decade the majority of VFA Club delegates meekly rolled over and agreed to drop the unique rules (think throwpass) and rejoin the ANFC where they got a seat but not a vote. Ahhhhh, what could have been .....
