Tucker and Windsor sign on for 2027

Sandringham Football Club is pleased to announce the signings of Clay Tucker and Kai Windsor ahead of the 2027 VFL season.

22-year-old Tucker, a towering ruckman standing at 204cm, spent time on Hawthorn’s AFL list after being selected with pick three in the 2023 Mid-Season Draft following a strong campaign at Talent League level with the Eastern Ranges.

Tucker will be joined at the Zebs by best mate Kai Windsor, also 22, who makes the move Bayside after stints at both Box Hill and Casey Demons.

A highly touted junior, Windsor’s draft-year campaign with Eastern Ranges saw him earn a call up to the Vic Metro squad at the 2022 National Championships, pulling on the Big V three times and booting two goals.

Two games with Box Hill that same year yielded four goals, and while he spent time away from football in 2023, 2024 proved a breakout season for the versatile mid-forward.

St Kilda move to wipe out Sandringham

Forums

It's been reported by Tom Morris from Channel 9 that St Kilda are looking to have the Zebras move to Moorabbin and only wear the St Kilda jumper as their preferred option.

Bloody terrible news if true and both disgraceful and disrespectful of one of the great VFA/VFL clubs.

Go back to standalone Sandy and if be, die on your feet rather than be wiped out by the Saints.

Sandringham Coach 2025

Forums

Hearing some talk that a lot of the Sandringham crowd aren't all that pleased with Brendan Goddard being appointed as head coach. I saw a post on BigFooty the other day suggesting that he was wearing a Saints polo rather than a Sandringham one when the announcement was made to the playing group and that a lot of Sandringham players want out.

Sandringham to put more resources into recruiting

Sandringham will put more resources into its recruiting as it sets out to bolster its squad and climb the VFL ladder in 2020.

The Zebras finished their 2019 on the high of a 53-point win over the Northern Blues.

But it was only their sixth victory of the season and they settled 12th on the ladder, missing the finals for the third consecutive season.

The club is waiting on a decision from St Kilda about which of its assistant coaches will be in charge of Sandy next year.

Aaron Hamill has been at the helm for the past two years but the Saints may hand the role to Ben McGlynn.

Sandringham CEO David Cannizzo said the club had already asked operations manager Josh Vella to steer recruiting for next season.

In the past few years Sandy and St Kilda have done it together, with strong input from Saints official Luke O’Brien.

“Yeah, recruitment will be a big focus and we’re changing the structure on how we do it,’’ Cannizzo said.

“Our ops manager (Vella) will have a heavier focus on football and in particular recruitment.

“What’s become clear in talking to others clubs is that we’re slipping away a little bit with the model we have, and that’s shown by the ladder and our performances. We need to improve that. The other clubs are really driving that area, whether it be the coaches at stand-alone clubs or specific recruitment people at aligned clubs.’’

Cannizzo said the club was keen to bring in graduates from the Sandringham Dragons but also “more mature players over the age of 23 or 24 with the desire and the work ethic to play at VFL level’’.

Sandy’s best-performed recruit this year was 28-year-old Frankston Bombers captain Sam Fox.

He’s expected to finish in the top five in the best and fairest, the Neil Bencraft Medal, to be counted on Friday, September 13 at Sandy by the Bay.

Sam Fox was a surprise package for the Zebras this year.

Former St Kilda pair Sam Gilbert and Nathan Wright were Sandy’s key signings for 2019 but both left the club during the season.

Cannizzo said that while Gilbert and Wright hadn’t worked out, Clint Jones took the St Kilda-to-Sandringham path in 2015 and was exceptional.

“It can work, but we have to make sure we really challenge the desire and the interest to keep playing in the VFL. That burning desire still needs to be there. If it’s not, then clearly it’s not going to work for either party,’’ he said.

Sandy will again run the community combine testing day, which last year rewarded five players with contracts.

One of them, Ryan Carroll from St Kilda City, kicked three goals in the final round.

“Our footy program is very good,’’ Cannizzo said.

“If we can continue to provide that, whether the players play every game or only some games, they’ll still be developing. We’ve adjusted pretty well without the Development League.’’

He said he was unsure if Hamill would coach Sandy for a third season.

“I think it can go either way. We would love ‘Sammy’ to continue for another year. If he doesn’t we’re thankful for everything he’s done. A change with one of his deputies (McGlynn or Jake Batchelor) would be more than OK as well. They’re both fantastic assistants.’’

Where are Sandringham at?

Forums

They have now been a weak side for many seasons.

Ever since the alignment with Melbourne ended their on field performances have been very average.

How many years into the St Kilda alignment are they?

I can't see Sandringham surviving if they continue down the alignment path.  My dad commented today that there didn't seem to be any Sandy supporters at Arden street today.  They used to be one of the sides with a strong supporter base and big crowds.

I remember that the club was going to go standalone and announced that to the playing group, then did a backflip prior to the following season.  I can't help wonder what might have been if the club when back down the independant path.

Just seeing a St Kilda logo already present on the Zebras jumper.. I think the signs are ominous.  Shame some of the great past players don't mount a challenge to right the ship.

Good to see Sandringham wearing their proper jumper against the side formerly known as Preston.

I still can't believe the aligned clubs have given up their jumper numbers.

Channel 7 talking about the famous number worn by Nick Reiwoldt. Maybe it should have been more about famous Zebras playing in the no. 12!

Sandringham releases clash guernsey for 2019

08/04/2019

Sandringham has launched their new clash guernsey for the 2019 Hard Yakka / Totally Workwear VFL Season.

With up to three games scheduled at Moorabbin (RSEA Park) each season from this year, Sandringham and St Kilda jointly agreed on a clash guernsey that sees the traditional Saints tri-colours design utilised with the word ‘SANDY’ in the traditional Sandringham colours of yellow and black on both sides of the guernsey, as well as a blue collar and sleeves.

The Sandringham traditional guernsey of yellow and black vertical stripes with blue trim will remain the primary guernsey, with the addition of the St Kilda Football Club logo on the back.

The clash guernsey will be worn for the first time this Sunday at Marvel Stadium for the KPA Lawyers Round 2 Sandringham v Box Hill match.

The clash and traditional guernseys can be seen below.
