The best of 2005?

Forums
Was thinking the other day that we didnt get a thread to really close up the 2005 season, so before the flood of stuff starts on 2006 I was wondering if we should have a shot at listing the best: Match? Goal? Mark? Individual performance? Any other point worth listing....

Grand Final Radio Coverage

Gave SEN, 774 and 3AW all a try while at the game. Thought 774 and 3AW kept referring to the AFL and AFL players a hell of a lot. Annoyed me! SEN were much better in quickly identifying the players and kept up with the play better. I guess they should be, given that they've been on the job all year. Anyone agree? (or disagree?)

BACK TO BACK ZEBRAS

What a win...back to back for the first time in our history,... A fully deserved win and it would have been a total injustice had Werribee got up... I felt the zebs were in control for most of the match... Daniel Ward a worthy winner of the Norm Goss medal Shannon Motlop's "wonder" goal in the 3rd quarter......goal of the day Werribee came back very well in the last 1/4.....Podsiadly was ok...Rawlings...hardly sighted The umpiring was crap...several puzzling decisions..... But who cares! We won!

VFL Grand Final - post-game thread

Forums
Firstly a crowd of 8,632 was disappointing, was a great atmosphere though, plenty of noise, really comfortable crowd for those who were there, but for the TV and the finances of the VFL perhaps Optus Oval will not be used again. The ground is magnificent, the grandstand has seating everywhere, there is good enough standing room, I can't understand why people don't like it. The third term cost Werribee badly, Poyas and Motlops dominance for Sandy was amazing. Werribee skills also let them down. Werribee, given how many poor players they had, to only lose by 9 points was a pretty good effort. Podsy wasn't right fitness wise, Rawlings was disgraceful for a bloke on the cash he is, Skipper was not imposing enough, generally the forward line was ordinary. Same thing has happened a few times, took them a long time to get the forward line right in Bendigo the other week as well. Blokes like Gleeson, Furfaro, Darcy and Closter missed out, probably not worthy of playing but still I wonder if with such a good VFL list at disposal they made the most of what they had? Not convinced that Atkins went about a few things in the right way, the delay coming out after half time was poor, they were 5 minutes late and in hindsight his "underdog" label possibly backfired cos he's reminding his players constantly that they were beaten by Sandy - why not talk his boys up a bit? Full credit to Sandringham, better skilled and more hungry. Poyas was great, Ward off half back provided so much drive, Motlop did his bit, Armstrong kicked a few goals, Williams was good, Warnock put his hanmd up down back, so did Biddlecombe who blanketed Rawlings. Anyone confused with the timing of the quarters, the last going for less than 28 minutes? I thought it would have gone for closer to 30. Do they shorten the quarters in the Grand Final, I believe the half time break is shortened. A good Grand Final, a worthy winner. Hopefully a few clubs are ready to challenge for the premiership in 2006.

VFL Reserves GF - Williamstown vs Nth Ballarat

Forums
Promises to be a terrific clash this one. Two weeks ago when these sides met the match was decided in extra time at Point Gellibrand oval. Todd Medallist Steve Dinnell will be in action for the Roosters, and they appear to have a good mix of experience and youth in their side. Blokes like Gavin Miller, Danny Grellet and Ayden George always seem to play well when I see the Roosters. The rucks with Orren Stephenson and Nick Bye facing off against AFL draftee in waiting Scott Meyer from Williamstown will be a terrific battle as well. I have a feeling Fothergill-Round medallist Jackson Barling might have qualified for the reserves based on early season games. If he plays it adds further interest for those AFL scouts who make it along. Anyone going early for the big game? I'll get out of bed early and head along, I'm expecting a very close match.

Bendigo V Sandy

Forums
On a cold, windy and wet day at TEAC Oval the mighty zebs overcame a sluggish start to end up winning quite convincing winners... At one stage in the 1st 1/4 Bendigo had 8 scoring shots to 1 and were dominating the play... Rven though Sandy won I thought Ted Richards was BOG...his marking was crucial.... But in the end the zebs ran Bendigo off their legs... The weather turned ugly in the last 1/4 but the skilss weres till very good... Now we have Werribee V Sandy next week in the Grand Final..... The good thing for the zebs was there are no injuries and players such as Rigoni, Carroll and Nicholson should be available next week.... A good headache for the selction panel this week GO ZEBS...back to back?????...hopefully

2nd Semi-Final: Bendigo v Port Melbourne

Forums
Could be the biggest crowd for some time at TEAC Oval, with Essendons season over, and more experienced players returning to the Bendigo line-up. Port Melbourne traditionally get a good following during the finals, so hopefuly the weather is similar the previous weekend. Its a huge ask for Port to keep winning, and Bendigo will sure to be firing for this do or die clash. Port Melbourne's side wouldn't change too much, assuming McKernan's ruled fit to play, and the fitness was good, playing almost the entirety of the game with three on bench. Does the 7-game minimum still apply when a sides AFL aligned partner is still involved in the finals race? I seem to recall them changing the rule. Looks like North Melbourne will only be making minimal changes to their side as well.

Sounds good to me! Hopefully Chad Jones continues that form from Sunday into the remainder of the finals.
