COME on down. That's the message from the VFL to Brendan Fevola as he ponders a possible return to football through the second-tier competition in 2011.

VFL clubs have to finalise their playing lists by March 14, with the potential for further tinkering in certain circumstances up to June 30.

But VFL football operations manager John Hook said yesterday there was no rule that would prevent the sacked Brisbane Lion from joining the competition when he returns to Melbourne, as he intends.

If he does all the right things he might endear himself to a club for them to take him on again. It's up to him with what he wants to do as a player. If he wants to play AFL football in 2012, he's better off playing here than playing locally.''
