AFL Victoria has turned its back on the prospect of playing VFL finals at Victoria Park this September.

Yarra Council gave permission for the finals to be held at the famous ground over three weekends on condition that temporary fencing be placed around the oval.

Councillors had voted to consider the possibility of placing signage around the ground supporting a Doncaster rail link to capitalise on ABC broadcasting of the games.

But AFL communications and marketing manager Anthony Stanguts said the cost of the temporary fencing and issues around parking and access for the broadcast partners were the main reasons for the rejection.
