FRANKSTON coach Simon Goosey believes improved depth will help propel his young outfit up the VFL ladder this season.
The Dolphins went through last year with just one win in Goosey's first season as coach but some experienced recruits have given the the faithful at Frankston Oval some optimism.
Dale Whelan returns to the club after a season with Ovens and Murray club Wangaratta Magpies, where he endured an injury-interrupted 12 months.
Christian Ongarello will also return to the Dolphins along with former St Kilda player Blake McGrath.
The Dolphins have also boosted their ruck department with Victorian Country and Drouin ruckman Bob McCallum and former Bendigo Bomber Joel West coming on board.
"We haven't got the marquee players - the big players," Goosey said.
