The 2008 AFL International Cup will be played from the 27th August to 6th September. This is the 3rd International Cup to be played.
There are 16 nations competing (Tonga pulled out late last week).
Nations are: New Zealand(defending champions(2005)),Papua New Guinea(runners up both timea), USA, Ireland(2002 champions), Samoa, Great Britain, Canada, South Africa, Japan, Nauru, Denmark, Sweden(Debut), Finland(Debut), China(Debut), India(Debut). Israel/Palestine Peres Peace Team(Debut).
The Fixture will be released on Tuesday Afternoon or Wednesday this week.
Round 1 will be played on Wednesday August 27th at Royal Park North, Parkville
Most Round 2 games will be played on Friday August 29th at Royal Park North, Parkville
2 of the Round 2 games will be played as curtain raisers to AFL games on Saturday August 30th. Before NM vs PA at the MCG and a game at St Marys,Geelong before Geelong vs West Coast (Geelong are playing Frankston on Skilled Stadium at the same time).
Round 3 will played at grounds in Warrnambool on Monday September 1st.
Semi Finals/Classification Games will be played at Grounds in Warrnambool on Wednesday September 3rd. It is also possible that 2 games may be played under lights at Cobden that evening.
Final Round Classification Games will be played at Royal Park North on Friday September 5th.
AFL International Cup Grand Final will be played as a curtain raiser to an AFL Final at the MCG on Friday September 5th or Saturday September 6th.
