THE Box Hill Hawks have baulked at a $15,000 transfer fee being demanded for former Burnie coach Justin Plapp.
Plapp has joined Box Hill as a development coach and is hoping to continue his playing career in the VFL.

But he maintains the transfer fee being sought by Burnie is excessive and his playing future with Box Hill remains up in the air.

"I'm 32 years of age and whether I can play VFL football will be determined by the state of my body," he said.

"It is not as though I'm 28 and going to the VFL with three or four years of good footy ahead of me," he said.

Box Hill

has refused Burnie's initial demand and negotiations are continuing between the two clubs and Plapp remains hopeful some common ground can be reached.

Plapp said he expected to know by the end of the month if he will be playing for Box Hill and he hasn't given up the thought of returning to Tasmania each weekend and playing with a club in the NTFL.

Latrobe coach Dale Perry has already been in talks with Plapp and he indicated yesterday he had also been approached by Wynyard.

"It's all hypothetical at this stage about me playing in Tasmania, I'll know more at the end of the month," he said.

If Plapp does return to play NTFL football it will be a huge boost for the competition which is starting to regain stride after being reduced to just six clubs in 2009.

The NTFL has appointed Steven Mooney from Ulverstone as its new administrative officer.

Mooney replaces Ian Wotherspoon who stood down from the role in October last year.
