Another great arvo at the best local ground in vic. Smaller crowd than last week, but that's normal for day games here. Up the dolphs. *trumpet noises intensify*
Out of interest, do you think Frankston is better off playing more games at night to maximise crowd numbers? Or was the big crowd against Port more of a one-off?
Hi NorthPort......we definitely get better numbers at night. I've noticed there's always heaps of club merchandise from all the MPNFL clubs when we have night games, so obviously they're either watching or playing for their local clubs on Saturday and coming to our games on the Friday or Saturday night. The Port crowd was probably the best we've had yet though. From what I understand, the AFL gave the club no choice about the start time against Sydney and I think the club would have been a bit disappointed with the smallish crowd. Also our girls' team played afterwards and the place cleared out very quickly before it which was a bit disappointing too.
aj is definitely right. the night games always pull a larger crowd. i couldnt really say why that is though. i think the atmosphere at skybus at night is unrivaled and people are attracted to the unique night time vfl footy that cant really be found anywhere else. lots of dads there with their young teens. lots of late teens. lots of footy lovers. perhaps people have more commitments on weekend daytimes than they do fri/sat evenings. day games seem to mostly feature the die-hard fans. frankstonians are evening creatures, we do tend to sleep in.
Dolphin Attack you're spot on......the atmosphere for the night games is pretty unique, and I think it's become even more popular this year than it was last year. It seems to be a definite hit with the 18-25 demographic.
Great pics Dolphin Attack.

* It's time to restore the VFA name.
