just a quick question for the Frankston followers on here, does the Club do meals before the game? And if so, are they of good size and quality? TIA, WFW
Do you mean president's functions? They do have one going before the game I believe and will include meals but I've never been to one, so no idea what the quality is like.
The function is scheduled for 5:30 PM before the game. Tickets available via Intix for $60 ($50 for Frankston members)
thanks, i wasn't really thinking of the president's dinner but that is an option - i was really thinking of whether the Club does meals in your flash new social club as my group who will be attending the match would rather support the FFC than one of the nearby pubs
Not to my knowledge unfourtunately, although we generally don't sit inside the social club during games. It's something I would like to see happen. I think with some extra TV's mounted inside the social club and meals provided, the place could be turned into a decent sports bar (especially with the AFL or other sports always on during or around match times.)
My dad once mentioned the idea of the club doing a deal with local restaurants and takeaway places to provide meals on gameday, or even offering a meal discount to members of travelling clubs to encourage them to take in some of what Frankston has to offer. It'd provide something for those who make the trip down here and also give back to the local businesses around Frankston that have provided sponsorship for years.
If you are looking for meals while you're down here, the Cheeky Squire is a short distance away and does great food from my experience. Frankston RSL also has a great sports bar with pub meals on offer.
Very fortunate to have attend many president lunches during the Roosters time in the VFL & the hospitality & quality of the meals was second to none. Had a bit of luck on the Pokies also.
Wally, the club does do the president's function from I think 5:30pm for $60 - with a guest speaker, but not sure who that is for round 1. I'm pretty sure you can get a meal without being at the function, but can't recall the details as I haven't done that for a couple of years. From memory it was $25-30 for a very nice roast. The snack bar stocks a fair bit of hot food, and there is a sausage sizzle running over on the grandstand side these days. As upthedolphins said, The Cheeky Squire is just down the road, as is the Grand Hotel, both with really nice meals. I will be at the club tonight and will try to get some more info about the meals for you.
Just confirmed that the only full meals on Friday will be as part of the President's function. Canteen will still have hot food but I'd suggest looking at some of the pubs around town for a full feed. They're all pretty decent quality.
Not that you Williamstown folk are short of a dollar but watch out for the pub around there that will tell you they have 2 for the price of one meal deals but when you look at the price their single meal is double the price of anywhere else lol ! My mates always amuse ourselves with that story when we go to good old Frankston.

Wally, sadly that info is correct. We used to have meals available for a lot less than that, so I'm going to enquire as to why we don't now. We need to encourage people coming from the city and beyond to come down and make a day of it, so a decent feed is a mandatory part of that. Might even see if we can do a deal for discounts for away members at one of the local pubs or restaurants.
The Grand is about 500 metres walk Wally, The Cheeky Squire is another 50 metres, on the opposite corner (formerly Davey's).
yeah, my group would prefer to support the FFC rather than a local pub but if there are no meals available then the Grand it is - one of my group ate there before the practice match last weekend and said it was quite good and close to the ground
Appreciate that Wally, and am honestly a bit embarrassed that we don't have a more affordable option available. A lot of our home games do have food trucks attending (and coffee vans thankfully) but there's no guarantee.....I would assume for a big game like this one they will have them though.
Yes, you won't go wrong at the Grand. I've had many meals there over the years and am yet to have a bad one!
Wow, that's surprising, we had a meal at the CS in December and it was lovely, and they have a great little outdoor deck with sport on the TV too. As far as the Grand goes, I don't think the public bar has meals.....but either way, make sure you eat in the bistro.
well, i treat TripAdvisor like Lonely Planet, just a guide and not gospel - people who are unhappy are more likely to write a review than those that are happy and some people are inclined to complain about just about everything - we'll check out the Cheeky Squire as well, cheers
Hey people, hopefully this works and reaches you before you head to the game tonight. I'm told there might be some sort of footy record type thing available tonight which is great, but if not you can print one of these out (assuming it uploads properly). I am happy to do these for other clubs on a weekly basis if you want them. It's not a lot of work.
Not surprised by the Sportsbet odds unfortunately. While I think everyone's writing Frankston off a little too quickly, it's all but certain Williamstown will be the superior side this year. While our recruitment has been better, we've lost some important players (some of whom will line up against us tonight) so I completely understand why nobody expects us to win.
I can only hope we'll be up for the challenge tonight.
Well that's Round 1 in the books. A final losing margin of 21 points thanks to two quick goals by the Seagulls. Bitterly disappointed for the loss, but also proud of our boys for fighting until the end. With the margin under 2 goals halfway through the 4th quarter, the Williamstown supporters around us couldn't hide the nervousness.
There are things that need to be worked on. Some ill-discipline at times, especially an idiotic late hit and a shove on Will Fordham that cost us 100 metres. I get it, you can't not have some strong emotion when your captain goes to a rival club. But petty acts like that are something we should be above, especially after what we put on display against the Pies last year.
Accuracy and decision making under pressure also need work as well. Too many times Williamstown were just more clinical around the contest. And we conceded a lot of goals from turnovers that wouldn't have happened if a bit more thought was taken.
I don't think any of these issues are unsolvable for us. Hopefully the boys can take positives out of tonight and it drives them to keep working at it. I think there's some definite potential with this group.
Not stunned by the result. Our boys worked hard, but Willy were just that bit too polished for us tonight. We had our chances but just couldn't break the 8 point barrier to get within a kick. Willy had to work bloody hard for their win though, and they will walk away knowing they played a game. Was pretty spiteful at times (unsurprisingly). Frankston are going to be a decent side and will be much better for having the run together. Noah Gown is a big threat up forward, Tomo Owens fitted in seamlessly and a young bloke named Ollie Moran was more and more impressive as the game went on. I thought a few of our more experienced blokes struggled with the new game plan and will get better as they get more used to it. Josh Butland struggled to impact without the freedom to lead out, Josh Smith didn't have his normal impact down back, nor did Max Williams. We know all of these blokes have the talent, so it can only get better from here. Our boys showed plenty of tenacity tonight, and the future is bright.
Nice to run into PK and his lovely mum after the game. He'd probably be embarrassed by this, but he's an absolute icon of the club. We could do with his dash around the wings right now :)
Agree with AJs summation. Frankston are better than what people are giving them credit for (based on yesterday's match) and won't be the punching bag that some are expecting.
They best us I pre season, I wouldn't be surprised if they beat us during it as well, they did look good but Williamstown looked that bit more polished and seemed to make things happen with less effort.

Dolphins certainly exceeded my expectations - Friday night at Frankston Park is going to be a tough gig for most teams this year. We will get a much better idea of Frankstons capabilities next week. Port at Port on Friday afternoon will be tough.
I was hoping for Willi to be a force this year but they will have to improve a fair bit on last night. Their list is certainly capable of big things ...
As happened last year, i was relieved to depart Kars St (late) with the four points after another struggle where the margin both last night and last year were flattering for the 'Gulls - Frankston are a good side and will trouble plenty, particularly on their home patch

We might be from the bush. but we ain't green
Does that include a drinks package or is that $60 for (I assume 2 course) meal ?
Casey had the best value of money presidents lunch, $35 2 hour drink package and on both occasions we attended very welcoming to away supporters.

According to the advertisement, the $60 includes:
- Gate ticket
- Buffet dinner
- Half time snacks
- Pre-game address from the coach
- Guest speaker
- Cash bar
From that last point, my impression is that drinks are an extra expense.

that's reassuring aj, i had a look on Trip Advisor and the reviews were a bit mixed i must admit - the reviews of The Cheeky Squire even more so

Frankston looking good this arvo
Spending some time at the beach then?
Yessss, glorious day down by the beach
Not a bad contest so far. Frankston costing themselves with silly turnovers but their attack on the ball is excellent.
Wally, we're over near the sausage sizzle if you feel like stopping by. We've both got Carlton camping chairs and an eski between us.
