Pretty sure they're meant to enter in 2026 at the absolute latest in preparation for a 2028 AFL entry. But I also heard at one stage it could be next year.
I'd heard 2025 but i thought there may have been some announcement about that tonight - used to enjoy journeying down to Tassie when they were in the comp previously
The Devils VFL team was mooted for 2025 but will be pushed back to 2026, with its coach to be announced mid-2025 and squad to come after that.
The Tasmanian VFLW team will follow a similar timeline for a start also in 2026, one year before the Devils debut in the AFLW.
So, if it's in the Herald-Sun it simply must be true - the other question is does Tasmania retain a team in the VFL and VFLW after they start playing in the AFL and AFLW? or will that conclude as it did with Gold Coast?
Yould think theirs a need for a seconds side (unless they form a alignment with a club which is unlikely) therefore vfl inclusion post AFL club launch would be most likely as playing in a Tasmanian competition wouldn't be beneficial.
Out of curiosity, what was the idea of having a Tasmanian side in the competition initially?

THE VFLS MOST SUCCESSFUL CLUB - THE MIGHTY PORT MELBOURNE BOROUGH!
I'M PORT MELBURNE BORN, I'M PORT MELBOURNE BRED, I'LL BE PORT UNTIL I'M DEAD!!!
They should have their own development side but if money is an issue then perhaps an alignment with North Melbourne could be on the cards as they did previously and there is some sort of alignment with Tasmania and North with the AFLW side i think
Worst jumper in history? A yellow map of Tassie with a background of puke green, and a little red trim. Must have been all of 5 minutes gone into the design. Surely they could come up with something better than this??
The map on that guernsey is far less detailed than the one on the state guernsey, plus the red is a lighter shade.
Hopefully it's just a temporary thing - the state representative guernsey should be reserved for players from Tasmania, not a football club that will have plenty of recruits from the mainland. I actually think something like the old Brisbane Bears guernsey (their last one before merging with Fitzroy) would work well with Tasmania's colours.
Matthew Richardson was a bit evasive about the use of the jumper on 3AW last night - seems they will be using it for at least one game so there must be other designs in the pipeline
More thought went into running Commonwealth games, and a little imagination wouldn't have hurt, like idk... maybe a Tassie Devil instead of an unshaven Sheila..
As a foundation member (one of the 200K) there's a lot of tradition about the set up hence the use of the state jumper. But as the team settles on the field in the VFL they'll flip it a bit. The AFL will want an alt strip after all even if no other AFL club wear predominantly green.
It was always going to be 2026. With the demise of the TFL (TSL - I never called it that, it's a soccer name!) they needed a season to get the old structure up and running and settled. That means the SFL Premier Division (TFL), NTFA Premier Division (NTFA) and the NWFL (NWFU). It's interesting to compare the 2025 layout of the three compared to the early 80's.
Likewise NorthPort, I went over to Tassie at least twice to watch Willi take on the Devils, once at Bellerive and once at York Park in Launceston on a Friday night which was quite possibly the coldest day ever recorded - loved getting over there for a few days
I watched Williamstown play Tassie at Devonport and Williamstown v tassie at York park Launceston. Have also watched a few local games at east Devonport, ulverstone, north Hobart and glenorchy. Been to 3 afl games im tassie. Richmond v hawthorn at Launceston 2006, Richmond v north Melbourne 2015, 2016 at bellerieve oval.

Same Wal. Dates haven't been finalised yet, but looks like 2028 for the AFL team, and possibly next year for VFL, but most likely is 2026.
The new club already has 40,000+ members - foundation memberships were only $10 hence the large number.
Tassie Devils will be in VFL in 2026.

It's the traditional Tassie state representative team jumper from way back

I'm not sure how I feel about a 'club' wearing a state representative jumper in a home and away competition.
I'd have preferred to see this beauty resurrected!
* It's time to restore the VFA name.

My tip is that it will not last. Quick current design to please all for starters.
Once established will be updated to a more refreshing strip.
We might be from the bush. but we ain't green
Agree Digs. They will revamp the jumper design in less than 3 years. 👍

Our ocassional poster Wizard could be xommissioned to design the jumper

The Devils will be my number two team in the VFL.

I always enjoyed watching the Devils played when they first went around in the VFA/VFL.
I hope they can draw good crowds. Hopefully those 200k members do equate to some decent local crowds both in Tassie and Victoria.
