Fans still get into it at port and the atmosphere is very good when the clubs winning but lack of recent success has left fans and atmosphere feeling somewhat flat past few years. Theirs not many venues with the feel of a successful Port, once we get infield right the rest will follow.

Your right Spiny, council wouldn’t let them play many night games as they stated they were concerned with the playing surface only to allow several school matches to be played after that statement. Perhaps they feel the many games played during the day time by kids don’t impact the ground !!!! Truth be told these Johny come lately residents who live across the street complained enough about night matches  and the lights that the council buckled in and disallowed them to be played, they weren’t concerned over the playing surface otherwise they wouldn’t have allowed the many games played during the day by non Port Melbourne sides to go ahead.

Paul Amy is reporting on Twitter that there are reports that the ABC and Fox Footy have both approached the AFL about broadcasting VFL games, so hopefully the VFL will have continuing TV coverage.

I would not have guessed that residents would complain about the night matches. It's very disappointing that that happened and was allowed to interfere with night games being played.

It was something that the council didn’t admit to stating that their concern of not allowing non port games to go ahead was the playing surface (interview which I think northport posted the councillor states this is the reason) however on several occasions whilst driving past on weekdays i saw games being played which had nothing yo do with the club. It’s common belief that the residents had a lot of impact on the decision  - as I get older im beginning to feel more and more like John Becker and as I stare at my phone typing this I feel like saying in a loud voice -  WHATS WRONG WITH PEOLLE TODAY THEY BUY PROPERTY NEXT TO A FOOTBALL GROUND THEN GET UPSET FOOTBALL IS PLAYED !!!

Love to have ABC (over fox) take over the coverage - being the 2nd best competition in Victoria, or even Australia or the world 🌍 I think it warrants free to air coverage - if not how do you explain to sponsors you want the same sponsorship $$$ (which we desperately need right now) for lesser exposure !

Surely the ABC can't financially afford to broadcast games?? That was the reason they ceased broadcasting prior to Channel 7 taking up the gig.

Don't get me wrong, that would be a fantastic outcome if they were to pick it up. It would be wonderful to see ad-free VFA/VFL Footy once again.

Foxtel I would have thought have enough AFL content throughout the week that they would not have a strong desire to be squeezing games in amongst their other shows and games. If it were on fox footy, it would probably reach a larger audience given pubs and clubs often leave fox footy on TV.

If either (or any other) were to convert the games, they would have a lot of organising and potential re-jigging of the fixture to make it work.

* It's time to restore the VFA name.

Yeah I don't see why Foxtel would see any value in the VFL rights, given the near-monopoly they have on AFL games now.
