VFL Record Links Or PDF's
Body:

Hey all,

Sorry if this is a semi-repeated post, but I did have a browse and couldn't find anything similar.  I'm looking for exactly what the title says, and then some if people have little online obscure goldmines or even scrapbooks in the garage!

Been away from this site for 17 years, like a few Devils supporters I'd imagine...!  Hello to anyone who remembers me from before...I do have fond memories of the chats from the noughties back then.  Had to add a 2 to my name, because who knows what password I was using back then, plus the site wouldn't let me update the password before my attention span gave up on a couple of rejections...!

In that time, I have gotten into Tasmanian footy history in a huuuuge way, compiling a lot of historical info with the lofty/possibly futile ambition of recording every game ever played in the state...ever.  Absolutely definitive.  Everything from the top seniors and reps, all the way down to scratch matches in the 1870's in paddocks where the players had to avoid the owners' cows...and one day it'll all be published - not internet, but something tangible with actual pages.  Could see it coming even back then, when associations would upload their info thinking it would be available forever, but right now I'm on a mad mission copying everything I can find from Sportingpulse, who themselves have a "get bent" attitude to anyone who left them for PlayHQ...!  There are huge information gaps in the 2000's, because the loss (a more accurate way to describe "archiving") of those sites coincided with reduced newspaper coverage in many places...again, it was all supposed to last forever...

The current focus is the Devils from 2001-08.  Have just completed all the matches, which I had but lost due to a hard drive accident.  The way I recorded that info way back then though wasn't as good as it is now, so I was always going to revisit those 8 seasons sometime, so kind of a blessing in disguise.  Because the Devils are at the top level for our state, they get the full treatment for analysis, so I'm currently on a mission to get:

1) Every goalscorer.

2) Every accurate start time (Australian Football .com isn't accurate).

3) Every attendance.

4) Every team lineup (not the squad, but the actual onfield 22/23), Devils and opposition, complete with numbers and captains.

5) Extended player lists, detailing player previous clubs, bdates, ht and wt, full names.

6) Any medals won, such as the ones Tassie v Frankston games had.

7) Little miscellaneous details (e.g. Frankston sold home games - which of the two in 2007 was the sold match, and was it still a Frankston home game or did they just give the whole thing to the Devils lock, stock and barrel...?)...

That drive accident corrupted most of a lengthy list of VFL Record PDF's I'd collected over time, so is there a site today where they are archived (there's that word again)...or does someone have a stash they could help a brother out with...?

You may have checked this already, but it looks like the Victoria State Library has a few VFL Records from the relevant time period that can be requested from offsite storage. Good luck, and sorry to not be of more help.

The big problem with state libraries is that they only let you access their info if you're actually in the state!  I'm up here amongst the taipans, crocs and cassowaries in FNQ...!  Got the same problem currently with Tassie, although it's 99% certain we'll have moved back by the start of next year...

That is definitely a problem - unfortunately I'm not in Melbourne either so can't help there, sorry!

I've been considering heading into the state library to try and find some source on Frankston's history. If I make any solid plans I'll let you know and I can try to find some things for you.

I've got a stack of records from my dad's collection that I've kept, but I think they're all from 2014 to 2019 sadly. If I happen to find any from Tassie's first VFL stint I'll happily post them.

Thanks champions.

Ballarat is a slightly difficult destination from here, Mission Beach in Far North Queensland!  However, scans or even photos of pages can traverse these vast distances...!

Anything helps reduce the amount of actual digging that needs to be done, and double ups are great simply for verification.  I've ransacked every post here and stuck it on the grand document.  I just wish I'd done the same cutting and pasting back then...!

I bumped into Paul Amy at Frankston's game last night and thought about asking if he knew whether this stuff ever got stored digitally, but didn't get the chance.

Hi Gibbke2 Its a fair walk from Mission Beach to Ballarat !

Send me a PM & I will attempt to assist with what you are looking for.

I am not that technically minded as far as  transferring files & am very reluctant to lend any info as in the past some dvd's etc have never been returned.

I had a ton of records from that period including a few Tasmanian printed ones. I donated them to a historian from the Williamstown Football Club (Port Melbourne now has a great historical setup thanks to Jenny and Ron along with some loyal stalwarts)

I may have some PDF ones still available. I'll endeavour to find them and upload them for you.  One alternative might be the 'way back' internet archive site that may have some of those still available as well.

Hi Gibbke2, I have found some PDF records.  I'll upload them to a folder and share access. 👍
