PLAYERS collapsed, fans gasped.

After a crazy last 20 minutes of footy, it was a draw between Frankston and Williamstown on Sunday at Frankston Park.

Scores were knotted on 92 points apiece.

It was the biggest thriller of the season, but those who witnessed it left the ground trying to work out how the heck Frankston didn't win.

The Dolphins led by 41 points - yes, nearly seven goals - early in the final term after big Khan Haretuku slotted his third goal.

A fumbling Williamstown had looked badly out of sorts, but found another gear to kick the last six goals of the game.

With three minutes to go, Western Bulldogs star Justin Sherman tied things up when he threaded a brilliant set-shot goal from the boundary on the grandstand side of the ground.

The remaining moments were frenetic as both sides cracked in, desperate to get any score.

Frankston had its chances, coach Simon Goosey admitted later.

"It was disappointing," he said soon after the game.

"I suppose the only thing we can hang our hat on is that we didn't lose.

"But the effort was fantastic. I was pretty proud of the way the boys went about it."

It was yet another lesson learned by this young, emerging Dolphins outfit.

And that's how Goosey saw it; as valuable experience.

"I've never seen the boys so disappointed," he said.

"We're playing really good football and the boys deserve some reward. We're not far off. The wheel is slowly turning. We got two points today."

Frankston led by 12 points at quarter-time, a goal at half-time and skipped 35 points clear by the last change.

The wags on the hill had the Frankston chant going after Haretuku, Kyle Martin and Luke Potts booted goals in the third term as the lead increased.

Frankston 5.2, 8.7, 13.8, 14.8 (92) drew with Willy 3.2, 7.7, 7.9, 13.14 (92).
