A genuinely big name in the late 70's and 80's at a time when the VFA was at one of its peaks.
I realise that off-field issues have affected Gary Abletts nomination for AFL Legend status, but I'd love to see the 6-time Premiership player acknowledged as one of the VFA's most famous players during this period.
Am I overstating the VFA and Port Melbournes impact during this period when Channel 10 was broadcasting both Home & Away and Finals games, and the finals series was drawing big crowds to the likes of Punt Rd and the Junction Oval.
Am I way off the mark here ?
