Brad Lloyd joined the greats of the Williamstown Football Club when he won his third Gerry Callahan Medal at last nights Gerry Callahan Medal Vote Count and Presentation Night.
Brad previously won the coveted award in 2000 and 2001. This third medal allows Brad to join Club legends Arthur Sykes, Ray Smith, Barry Round and Troy Mitchell as the only players to win three Best and Fairest Awards for Williamstown since the inception of the voting in 1930. Only Kim Kershaw with four has won more Best and Fairest awards.
Sam Cranage capped off a consistent year by finishing second with 48 votes, eight votes behind Brad's total of 56. Equal third was Luke Jarrad and Luke Theodore, each with 43 votes with Magpie Rookie Justin Crow finishing in fifth place with 42 votes.
Jarrad & Cranage lead the voting for most of the night. It wasn't until round 15 that Lloyd hit the front, a position he was able to maintain through the final rounds.
In the reserves count Nick McArdle dominated the voting, eventually winning by 13 votes after missing the final five games of the reserves home and away season due to senior promotion. Joe Laverde was second with 53 votes, with reserves Captain Matthew Cape, Heath Lawry and first year player Shaun Neeson all tieing for third.
The other major award for the night was the Ron Johnson Memorial Trophy, which was awarded to Jeremy Dukes. The Ron Jonhnson Memorial Trophy is awarded by the playing group to the player who displays the qualities of courage, determination, leadership, spirit and the ability to overcome adversity. After missing the majority of 2003 with kidney problems and being restricted by Osteitis Pubis in 2004, Dukes was able to return to the senior side in round 19; no player summed up the spirit of the award more than Dukes.
Other major announcements on the night was Heath Lawy's invitation to undertake a preseason at Collingwood with the hope of being Rookie listed by the Magpies and Luke Jarrad's invitation to participate in this Sunday's Draft screening in the hope of being selected in the upcoming National, Preseason or Rookie Draft. Invitation to the draft camp is only issued if at least 3 AFL clubs show interest in the player.
