This question is for Anthony Stanguts.
I know you do read the forums on the website.
You can write this suggestion in the vfl footy record.
Time to have a round or for every club to have one home game from next year in Rural/Country Victoria like Cricket Victoria do every year.
Whether you can have it on one round or spread each teams one game a year on a round where best suited for each club. Maybe easier to spread it over the year (22 rounds) where you would have 13 country/rural games with each club have one each.
The ABC should also get on board to televise at least 2 of these games. Great way to promote the vfl. If they work out the fixtures well and pick the right games for the right country town it will be a winner no worries.
For instance
Frankston can have a home game at either Rosebud, Portsea, Dromana or Rye. Williamstown at Torquay again. Was a great success on Easter Sunday this year.
Werribee at Drysdale or maybe another game at Reid Oval Warrnambool.
Geelong at Colac or even a home game at Western Oval Geelong West. They can organise to have a reunion of all Geelong West ex players and supporters and don the Geelong West jumpers for the day. Maybe they could play against Port Melbourne or Williamstown which would get a decent crowd.
Sandringham at one of the alternate venues used by Frankston in Rosebud, Portsea, Dromana or Rye.
Northern Bullants at Yea or even Seymour.
Box Hill at Healesville or Mansfield.
Collingwood at Wangaratta
Bendigo at Echuca
Casey at Traralgon, Moe, Sale or as far as Bairnsdale
Port Melbourne at ?? not sure but as Port are close to town maybe they can have a game at Western Victoria in Terang or Camperdown.
North Ballarat at Maryborough, Horsham or even another game at Stawell
Coburg at Albury or Lavington
The SANFL and WAFL have some games a year at country venues which does promote the state leagues and gives the people in those country towns to see a bit of state league matches.
Definitely worth a shot in 2012 and beyond if it goes well.
