PORT Melbourne is safe for the finals. Now it will go boot-for-leather for a top-four finish and double chance.

The Boroughs on Saturday stitched up a fourth consecutive September engagement with a 25-point win over the third-placed Casey Scorpions at an achingly cold Casey Fields.

Using a strong wind going to the cricket ground end, they drilled seven goals to one in the last quarter to transform a three-quarter-time deficit into their ninth success this season.

Before the match coach Gary Ayres remarked that most games are won and lost in the midfield and Port had three supreme onballers in Adam Bentick (39 disposals), Toby Pinwill (35) and Shane Valenti (25) and another influential player in rover Ryan McMahon (24 possessions and two goals in the final quarter).

GOOD mates Simon Goosey and Gary Ayres shook hands and wished each other luck before Sunday's VFL clash between Frankston and Port Melbourne at Kars St.
