The rivalry at its core is supposed to be state against state rather than the competitions themselves. So having QLD and NSW players playing in what is meant to be Victoria vs South Australia really doesn't make sense.
Another problem that's arisen out of the VFL's muddled identity. This is being talked up by the AFL as a fierce rivalry game without acknowledging the elephant in the room of the northern states being involved. Southport have six players named in the 50-man VFL squad (with nine total from the northern states.) It can't be a Victorian rep squad when you've got northerners involved.
I'm not sure? I do know NRL state of origin is awesome and so was ours 30 years ago. If someone is a proud Victorian, playing up North and wants to rep his state, maybe he should be permitted, not sure though...I am sure that it would be good if pulling on the bigV was considered the highest honour and greatest achievement in one's career.
To me, it seems ridiculous that players from Brisbane, Southport, Gold Coast, Sydney and GWS should be pulling in the Big V to represent Victoria!

Big game this weekend for stand-alone's Willy v Werribee at Chirnside.
Willy need to start getting decent wins due to a precarious percentage of 105.9% to stay there abouts.
Werribee in third place with second highest percentage of 133.6%
Both teams lots to play for, get down for what should be a test for both sides.
