a very interesting article in sportsbeat (sa) re the salary'
Body:
SANFL CLUBS NEED SALARY-CAP BOOST with the advent of a national competition, sanfl clubs have long enjoyed enough financial muscle to ensure they can outbid vfl & wafl teams and attract the vast majority of quality recruits outside of the afl. the sanfl's salary cap is far in excess of those of the vfl & wafl- a centrpiece in the sanfl's desire to be regarded as the best state-league competition in the country & much to the frustration of both the wafl & the vfl. quickly the landscape is changing. while the salary cap in sa remains virtually double that of the state-league clubs in vic & wa, the mining based economic boom in wa has made the nine wafl clubs able to package very lucrative work offers to complement an inferior football contract. several midfielders & ruckmen have found their way into the wafl in 2008 after local clubs (sa) believed they had offered them very attractive contracts to play in the sanfl. the economic boom in wa is certain to see sanfl clubs beating down the door at west lakes demanding a further lift in our salary cap. such a move would be vigorously opposed by the vfl, which is the big loser in the recruiting race, and quite likely the afl, which has always cast a suspicious eye on the size of the sanfl salary cap. i thought it was an interesting atricle & personally i don't think there should be any type of salary cap, because if you as a player can earn more to help set you up in life i say good luck to them, why should they stop players from earning what they can ? if clubs are stupid enough to go broke let them
