Seven million dollar redevelopment of TEAC Oval.
These plans have been spoken about for a while (almost as long as Williamstowns redevelopment). Does anyone know if the redevelopment will include a new scoreboard, or will a scoreboard be moved to the Hill at the southern end of the ground ? If Football Victoria are putting money into the redevelopment, is seating for 5000 still on the cards? I thought that was one of the requirements for Casey Fields, but seating for 5000 at that ground still looks a long way off.

Just an extra zero in there ons - the requirement was 500 seats under cover, not 5,000. FV accepted that not everything could be delivered from Day 1 at Casey Fields, and that there were a number of venues that did not meet all of the standards. I would be pretty certain that in the future there will be additional covered seating as well as covered standing room area. But it will take time. A $7 million development would be sensational, compared to Casey Scorpions' $4.7 million facility. You could get a lot extra for that last $2.3 million. Where would all the money come from?

I thought the requirement was 5000 seats (not under cover) to be a requirement for funding. My mistake! 500 Under cover.. Well you could get close to that in the Norm Goss Stand already. According to Paul Amy during his SEN segment.. the money (potentially) would come from Port Melbourne FC, Football Victoria, and the City of Port Phillip

With the redevelopment, does this mean that there will now be a venue which is capable of hosting VFL grand finals without any issues?

http://www.stratcorp.com.au/html/s02_article/article_view.asp?whats_new=... "Football Victoria and Port Melbourne Football Club and the City of Port Phillip have engaged Stratcorp Consulting to prepare a Master Plan to guide the redevelopment of Port Melbourne Cricket Ground." The project description is written in horrible management-speak: http://www.stratcorp.com.au/files/4VSVYNXH9F/Port%20Melb%20Cricket%20Gro... It gives November 2005 as the date for the completion of the planning process, so it seems that the project is being held up at the funding stage. It also mentions HOK Sport, which is an international architecture firm involved in designing stadiums. Could they actually be considering building a new grandstand? And if so, why?? (Also, what is that ground in the middle photo? The Murphy Reserve?)

I think the plans are for a new administration, corporate function/hall of fame area and club rooms over on the scoreboard pocket. Above that level is under-cover seeting.

In these days, when VFL clubs need to attract players from all over the country to be successful, they need to have as big a reputation as possible. I hope the club isn't planning to service a lot of debt on this project. They shouldn't assume that it will eventually pay for itself

I think you might find that the development on that side of the ground will in fact draw some of the crowd with it.

In fact, there's a few of them. But when the project is mooted to cost $7million dollars, I think everyone should be a bit concerned about the cost. AFL clubs can get league bailouts, but VFL clubs wouldn't.
