From what I hear, they spent a fair bit of time trying to convince Hawthorn to come their way so they could build on the Hawthorn pressence in Tassie and dump the alignment with North for one that had a better fit. The should should forget all about any alignment issue and concentrate on building a proper program in Tassie. Thats why they were invited in to this competition in the first place. A Devils alignment in no way help develop a striong football development program in Tassie.

For Tassie to be aligned defeats the purpose in the first place. How can you build up local talent when you have drongos like Jonathan Hay running around. They are a Tassie team who should concentrate on local talent as well as having solely a Tassie standalone team. No ifs no buts. They have done ok with quite a few locals making an impact in the vfl so it should not rely on North Melbourne or any other AFL team. I have a strong suspicion that next year will be Tassie's last as an aligned team.

Darren Cresswell (Senior coach of the Devils) is a supporter of the alignment.

And in any event, we are talking about this competition, and indirectly the improvement and development of good kids in Tassie, not the views of the Devils. With all due respect, given that Tassie entered in to the arrangement with North, we already know where they stand.

The alignment with Tasmania worked at different times during the season, but a lot of talented young Tasmanian draft prospects were not given a chance to show what they could do at VFL level.

AFL listed players view playing in the VFL as a demotion. I got to see several games involving the Devils up here in Brisbane on ABC2, and as a Hawk supporter who once was happy with Jonathan Hay, I was irritated to say the least to see the lack of effort from a guy who I was happy to see F off from my AFL side of his own volition...only to end up with my VFL mob...! Growing pains in a brand new alliance, but we're still too new as a team. We still can't get the North/South thing right (don't hold your breath), so the extra burden of a potentially delicate alliance with a team in a superior league doesn't help... And to be honest, I'd like to see a fully 2-headed lineup win the club's first flag...! I'd hate to see something like this become a catalyst for a Northern side in the future, because the Devils represent the state (ideally). I'm a Northerner, but it gives me a big buzz to see the mighty dark green run out for the express purpose of beating up mainlanders on a weekly basis, especially since they won't ever get to do it in the AFL, so I'd hate to see that go for the same fragmentary short-sightedness that sunk the TFL...

And since then, my worst fears realised... Thank the Roos for their help, wish them well, but the Devils should go it alone and recruit committed players, not be forced to select players dropped from another team. They might find the sponsorship and membership (particularly the disillusioned North) might increase if it belongs wholly and solely to the state and noone else...

Who do you think the Roos would align with if the partial alingment with North Ballarat and Tasmania falls over? I don't think the Roos have enough money to be able to stand alone like Geelong do.

Nth Bullants would be an obvious one??
