It was an even first half with both teams kicking 4 goals in each of the first 2 quarters. In the the third quarter Coburg broke the game open kicking 5.8 to 1.1 and then kicked the first 2 goals of the last quarter to lead by 38 pts 5 mins in before Geelong kicked the last 5.4 of the game to lose by just 4 pts, the Cats did have chances to win ther game at the end. The other news was injuries to Shane Morrison, Thomas Roach,Leigh Carlson,Billy Nicholls and Duncan Kellaway had the tigers down to 17 men for the last 20 mins of the game.

Coburg got off the an excellent first quarter and the dolphins fought back in the second, Coburg led by a goal at half time and then 4 pts and three quarter time before Frankston got to a 7 pt lead 10 mins into the last qtr and then Coburg kicked the last 3 goals to win. The Dolphins did not help themselves by kicking 2.6 to Coburg's 4.2 in last qtr. Marc Holt and Alec Isailovic were reported for wrestling each other in the second quarter.
