A PEACE deal has been brokered between the AFL and the AFL Victoria board with the addition of two new AFL executives on AFLV's board as part of a change to the constitution.

Several VFL teams have feared for their future after the AFL's request to be the sole voting member of the AFLV's board, but the request was voted down.

The two new members of the executive team will be directors and will fill two of the four vacancies, which hands the AFL a bigger say at board level. But the AFL's general manager of development, David Matthews, said funding cuts were unlikely and the future of Victorian football was in safe hands.

"We've been in discussions with the AFL Victoria board for a considerable period of time but this particular issue has been about governance," Matthews said.

"It's been about, can football structure itself in a way that bridges the communities closer together?"
