GOOD Friday remains a football-free day - for at least next year.

The AFL Victoria board has rejected a proposal from Williamstown to play Geelong in a VFL match at Torquay on Good Friday next year.

But Williamstown has requested a meeting with the board in a bid to overturn its decision.

Williamstown general manager Brendan Curry said his club was "extremely disappointed", given all the planning and support it had garnered for the Good Friday match.

Curry said Geelong was keen to play, Football Geelong had given its support, along with the Torquay Football Club and the community.

"Hopefully, we can sit down and persuade them to reconsider," he said
