FORMER Melbourne-listed midfielder Shane Valenti's hopes of resurrecting his AFL career have been boosted after he and North Ballarat on-baller Stephen Clifton were named joint winners of the J. J. Liston Trophy in the VFL at Etihad Stadium last night.

WILLIAMSTOWN coach Peter German and Port Melbourne coach Gary Ayres have called for an overhaul of Liston Trophy voting.
German believes the 3-2-1 voting system could cost one of his star Seagulls the award tonight award, while Ayres said the emergency umpire was better equipped to cast the votes.
The VFL uses the same voting system for its top individual award as used for the Brownlow Medal, with the three field umpires awarding votes to the best three players.
