Body:
A terrific effort from Port for all four quarters.. So many doimnant players, its very difficult to name a best list. Sinclair and Jezza were great around the ground, with Clayton being rested later in the game. Obst and Gibson were terrific in defence and Robbie Alexander continues to impress me with his work ethic and ability to work hard defensively.
Schwarze was good on the wing, but a couple of disposal errors in the second half of the game. Rudd and Gieschen were solid throughout and there will be some real competition for a sport in the 22 next week. David Pitt came on in the second half and was good in the midfield.
Saverio Rocca looked good, took a few strong marks and kicked truly, only missing one shot, he finished with 4 goals. Goalsneak Shane Harvey was very good inside 50 and his finishing skills saw him also finish the game with 4 goals.
A few players had limited opportunites..Joel Perry and Cotchett were used sparingly, Perry only came on in the last quarter and didnt really do much, looks like he might play a bit of reserves footy for Port again this year. Cotchett played as a forward pocket and played some very good football.. leading hard and kicking 2 goals in the last quarter.
H and Hale shared ruck duites, Hale was very strong around the ground and apart from a couple of errors in the first quarter (missing a shot at goal, and kicking into the man on the mark) looked very good. Hamish also drifted into the forward line, kicking a couple of goals. Hale also finished with two.
Goal scorers..
Harvey & Rocca 4 goals
Shore 3 goals
Cotchett, J Clayton, Hamish, LeCras, Watson, Hale 2 goals
Schwarze, C Jones, Gill, Sinclair, Rudd 1 goal.
(adds up to 28 oh well)
Injuries.. Only one major one, Hooker injured his shoulder and did not return to the field, saw him with it strapped up and icing it in the race later on.
Only saw half but the reserves also won strongly, finishing 14.11 to 7.12. Ramsay picked up a lot of possesions, and if he continues to improve will also be vying for a senior spot.
Others that I noticed did some good things were Finnin, Newman, Ryan Troon Goad. Shooter played in the reserves and was ok for the play I saw without being a standout. Goal of the day from Adrian Newman kicking to the Bolte Bridge end from deep in the pocket... it went through low like a rocket.. he was slightly injured shortly after and came off.
A bit of club news.. Rose was deservedly appointed Captain. His Vice captain is Chris Obst with Deputy Vice Captains in Luke Cotchett and newcomer Steven Lawrence.
